CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE
From Ven. Lama Lobzang, India

NAMO BUDDHAYA, NAMO DHARMAYA, NAMO SANGHAYA
Vesak is not only the holiest day for millions of Buddhists around the world but also a day of celebration for all humanity, for it commemorates three of the most defining moments in history- the occasions of Buddha’s birth, his Sambodhiprapti, and Mahaparinirvana. It is in acknowledgement of these three historic events that all of humanity comes together every year to celebrate the United Nations Day of Vesak. As National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (NVBS) is hosting the United Nations Day of Vesak for the second time, it underlines the importance of the contribution of the Sangha, Government, and the people of Vietnam in the eyes of the world Buddhist community.
Living, as we do, in an era of misery, conflict and environmental degradation despite the material and scientific advancements made by us, by celebrating Vesak, we reaffirm the need to apply Buddha’s teachings to our lives, and acknowledge the contribution and difference that Buddhism has made to human civilization consistently for 2600 years.
On behalf of the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), I congratulate NVBS, and wish them the very best in organizing this great celebration. At IBC we feel indebted to NVBS, and in particular to their Supreme Dhamma Patriarch, His Holiness Thich Pho Tue, who is also our esteemed Patron for unstinted support in the formation of IBC right from the very stage of its conceptualization. As stated by His Holiness, IBC is an important step in the rejuvenation of Buddha Dharma and the revival of holy Buddhist sites and pilgrimage in India, the land of origin of Buddha Dharma. It is our great privilege and pleasure that we are gathered here in Ninh Binh, Vietnam to celebrate the historic day of Vesak under his patronage.
Let us therefore all come together and take a pledge today that we will forever abide by Buddha’s everlasting teachings, and apply them in our individual and collective lives so that we may, as one, achieve our dream of a peaceful, equitable, just and harmonious society.
