CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE
From Mr. Andrei Dmitriev, Republic of Belarus
Dear Venerables and Dhamma Friends!
On behalf of our Theravada Group in the city of Minsk (Republic of Belarus) I express my appreciation to all organizers and supporters of this very special and important event for every person who follows the teaching of the Buddha – the Vesak Day Celebration.
It is so wonderful to belong to the ancient Buddhist civilization and share the same values with so many people from all over the world. Isn’t it surprising that Buddhism is spreading in countries where it was unheard of a couple of decades ago? It is understandable that each Buddhist nation added something their own to the external or ritualistic aspect of Buddhism. However, the essence of the Dhamma is universal, that is, it not limited to a particular region, culture or time period and this makes Dhamma become popular in the world because it touches upon suffering and happiness issue common for all people regardless of their origin.
Buddha Dhamma is indeed can offer a lot of healing methods to the world today because Buddha taught the end of suffering based on the development of mind. The state of mind depends on observing the moral principles in relation with environment, politics, economy, interpersonal relationship, etc. There is no area in our life where cause-and-effect law does not work. Therefore, this universal law of the Dhamma should be always taken into account before any action is planned. This conference theme “Buddhist Contribution to Achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals” is very relevant to our time considering recent events like economic crisis, natural disasters and wars.
May Buddha Dhamma spread in the world!
Andrei Dmitriev,
Co-founder of Minsk Theravada Group
