It is my absolute pleasure to send my greetings on this memorable occasion, which commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and passing of Buddha Gautama.
Since 2001, this annual United Nations Vesak Celebration event provides followers with an opportunity to reaffirm their devotion to ideals of Buddhism, to highlight the principles of compassion, understanding and peace preached by Buddha.
This annual celebration event also highlights the International Council’s commitment to achieve the UN Millenium Development Goals to foster co-operation among Buddhist communities and institutions, and to develop Buddhist solutions to the global crisis.
I take this opportunity to congratulate the organizers of this celebration, especially the International Council for the Day of Vesak, National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Vietnam and other partners for their commitments and contributions in organizing this memorable event in Vietnam.
I hope all participants enjoy this enriching Day of Vesak and be blessed with happiness.
