Most Ven. Thichi Thank Nhieu,
Chairman ICDV-UNDV 2014 International Organizing Committee, Standing Vice President of National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Vietnam
Dear Sir,
It is our pleasure to know that you are organizing The United Nation’s Day of Vesak 2014 International Conference in Vietnam.
Observing the happenings in the world today, we realize that we are facing various tensions and crisis, both in Europe and in Asia. Some are manmade crisis created by self-centered political considerations, and some are due to extraordinary climatic changes and overwhelming natural disasters. We may be able to say that we are facing to the situation where the necessity for the control of the minds of humairbeings are deeply felt, and where altruistic actions are truly wanted.
In the 5th century B.C., the Lord Buddha is said to have told to the public to live according to the Five Silas, thus controlling senses, and to strive hard for the betterment of lives of others to create the ideal society, where people live happily supporting and caring each other.
We came to know that “Buddhist Contribution to Achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals” is going to be discussed from five standpoints in your International Conference. I sincerely hope that meaningful and fruitful discussions are to be held in the conference, and that mutual cooperation among Buddhist communities will bring about the Buddhist solution for the various crisis today.
I sincerely wish the success of your International Conference.
Sincerely Yours
Prof. Kazumi Yamazaki
President, Rissho University Tokyo, Japan
