CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE
From Ricardo Guerro Dianez, Spain
On behalf of all members of the Hispanic Association of Buddhism, I want to send my message of congratulations to the organization of the UN Day of Vesak 2014 in Vietnam. As in all previous occasions, this celebration is an opportunity for the meeting of the various Buddhist organizations in the world and the exchange of knowledge and experiences. For all participants, it is a celebration that we expect every year forward and in which we participate with enthusiasm.
This UN Day of Vesak takes place for the second time in Vietnam and we want to acknowledge the efforts and dedication of the management of the Vietnam Buddhist University, the National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Intl. Council for the Day of Vesak. Without their efforts, this meeting could not have held.
The theme of this year’s celebration is the Buddhist Contribution to Achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals and we think that this is a clear opportunity for Buddhists to participating, posing our perspective and making our contribution to these fundamental goals in order to lay the foundation for future development of the world. Often, due to its non-belligerent nature and structure -or lack of it- it seems that Buddhism remains oblivious to the world’s problems, but nothing human was alien to the Lord Buddha and never can be far for us.
In 2015, it will be time to evaluate the first tranche of implementation of MDG and what attainments have been achieved and which are not and why. We are still in time to provide solutions and, above all, to be proactive to ensure the societies of which we are part to engage more clearly with them.
So I congratulate the organization for this initiative as well as encourage everyone to make an effort so that the result is fruitful.
Finally, congratulations to all Buddhists in the world at this very remarkable epoch in which we remember the most significant moments in the life of the Buddha.
May the Triple Gem bless all of us.
