Messages from Uganda
CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE
From Professor Baguma K.Peter, Uganda
Dear Sir/Madamme,
On behalf of the Makerere University School of Psychology (MUSP), I have the pleasure to extend to you my heartfelt greetings and convey a congratulation message to you for organizing the forth coming United Nations Day of the Vesak International Conference 2014 in Ha Noi, Vietnam from May 7 to May 11, 2014.
The MUSP trains and equips mental health professions with update therapies, with a keen consideration for alternative therapeutic technologies as complimentary to conventional approaches to mental healing. I have carefully observed the theme of the conference: ‘Buddhist Perspective towards Achieving the UN Millennium Goals,’ and felt it was very timely and relevant to supporting efforts towards realization of the MDGs. I further observe that the sub themes, namely; response to sustainable development and social change, response to global warming and environment protection, healthy living, peace building and conflict recovery, and Buddhist education up to University levels have strong bearings on mental health. With all these under consideration, I have no doubt that the conference will strengthen multinational efforts towards achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
On this note, we look forward to collaborating with you towards making this world a better place to live in for all and wish you gainful deliberations.
CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE
From Ven Bhikkhu Buddharakkhita, Uganda
On behalf of the Uganda Buddhist Centre, Africa, I feel much honored to write a congratulatory message to the National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (NVBS) and the International Council for Day of Vesak (ICDV) for organizing the 11th United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations on the theme of Buddhist Perspective towards achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals.
Furthermore, I truly rejoice in this august assembly of all Buddhists and other scholars, who are gathered here not only to celebrate the Vesak Day but also to discuss the relevance of the theme on Buddhist Perspective towards achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals. Such discussions enable us to uphold the ancient wisdom of the Buddha while developing new ways of applying his teachings to the challenges and crises in the modern world.
Moreover, I am eternally grateful to the Most Ven. Dr. Thich Due Thien, the Most Ven. Prof. Dr. Phra Brahmapundit, the Most Ven. Dr. Thich Nhat Tu, and the International Organizing Committee for inviting me along with the Ugandan delegation to participate in such auspicious celebrations. I do hope that our interactions will further promote the understanding of Buddhism in Africa and Vietnam.
I wish a grand success of the United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations.
CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE
From Dr. Helen Nambalirwa Nkabala, Kampala.
I have learned with delight that the International Council of the Day of the Vesak will be organizing yet another International Conference that will reflect on achievements of the millennium development goals (MDGs), with great relevancy to addressing global warming, contribution to healthy living, contribution to peace building and post conflict recovery, as well as moral uprightness. These indeed are key subjects of concern globally as they in one way or another affect the wellbeing of every one of us.
It is therefore with much pride that I seize this opportunity on behalf of Peace and Conflict Programme, Department of Religion and Peace Studies, Makerere University, to congratulate you for accepting to organize and host this event, and pray that it turns out as planned. Best wishes from us to you.
Yours Faithfully,
Dr. Helen Nambalirwa Nkabala,
Coordinator, Peace and Conflict Programme Department of Religion and Peace Studies, Makerere University, Kampala.
