Message for the United Nations Day of Vesak 2014

H.E. Mr. Sontaya Kunpiome

Minister of Culture of the Kingdom of Thailand

Vesak Day or Buddha Day is one of the most sacred days of the year when nearly 500 million Buddhists throughout the world celebrate the day of the Lord Buddha’s full enlightenment. And for more than 2,500 years, the Buddhism still stands unaffected by time and has, for centuries, paved the way for mankind to end the suffering.

The Four Noble Truths regarded as the grand foundation of the Buddhism has been leading all Buddhists to a world of wisdom, calm and sense of problem solving.

The importance of this great day of Vesak is realized not only by all Buddhists but also by the United Nations that acknowledge the significance of Buddhism in bringing peace and happiness to people of all races amidst the rapid changing world.

On the occasion of the United Nations Day of Vesak 2014, I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to the ntemational Council for Day of Vesak for the organizing of this year’s event and wish you all success in furthering the Buddhism teaching expansion to end people’s  suffering.

                                                                                                     Sontaya Kunplome

Minister of CuLture of the Kingdom of Thailand
