Hanoi Archbishop’s visit to Vietnam Budhist Sangha Vesak 2014
At 3:30 PM on April 30, 2014, at the Executive Council Office of Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha – Quan Su Pagoda, the Archbishop of Hanoi Diocese Peter Nguyen Van Nhon has visited and congratulated the United Nation Day of Vesak (UNDV) 2014 hosted by Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha (VBS).
The Archbishop and his delegation were greeted by Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Chair of the UNDV organizing committee; Most Venerable Thich Nhat Tu and Most Venerable Thich Quang Thanh, Deputy General Secretary of the UNDV organizing committee; Most Venerable Thich Giac Hiep, member of the UNDV organizing committee.

On behalf of the UNDV organizing committee, Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu expressed special thanks to the Archbishop of Hanoi Diocese and his delegation for their greetings to the UNDV. “Only if we meet and discuss regularly that we can unite in brotherhood to develop large compassion and contribute to solving social conflicts, building a prosperous country, preserving and developing healthy environment.”, confirmed the Archbishop.

On behalf of the UNDV 2014 organizing committee, Most Venerable Thich Nhat Tu presented an overview of the UNDV program, the ongoing preparation and the topics being deployed at the International Buddhist Conference of Vesak 2014. Most Venerable Thich Nhat Tu emphasized that the theme “Buddhist Perspective to Achieve UN Millennium Development Goals” is a message that will provides a lot of value to a harmonic human life and world peace as well as contributes toward a developed and sustainable society.

On this occasion, on behalf of the Catholic Archbishop of Hanoi, Archbishop Peter Nguyen Van Nhon offered flowers and the congratulatory message of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue for success of the UNDV 2014. The Archbishop stressed “Although the two religions have different traditional beliefs and activities, both have brought several benefits to the community and the society.” The message also emphasized “Toward a world of brotherhood, it is extremely important that we unite together to teach people, especially the youth, to set priority for the search of brotherhood, to live in brotherhood, and to build brotherhood. We pray that your celebration of the UNDV will become an opportunity to rediscover and to support brotherhood, especially in divided society.
